Reaching Your Triathlon Goals
By setting small short-term goals, you will be able to reach your long-term triathlon goals. It is easy to bite off more than you can chew and get totally discouraged. Progressively working through your smaller goals gives you the optimum likelihood for reaching your long-term goals. Instead of jumping to the top of the “building”, climb the training “stairs” one at a time. As you master each level of fitness, you will become more prepared for that ultimate goal.
Start by signing up for a short Sprint triathlon. Competing in your first triathlon can be your first goal. Allow enough time to train properly. Keep a log of your workouts, noting the distances, times and how you felt. One day it will give you a great sense of accomplishment to see how far you came from that first workout.
CONSISTENCY and ACHIEVABLE SHORT-TERM GOALS are key to reaching your ultimate goal. The success of each small goal along the way will motivate and inspire you to go to the next step. Have fun and enjoy the training. As you increase your fitness level, you’ll progress in reaching the short-term goals, and you will find that working towards your goals is actually FUN!
